In 2012, I started a blog about preparing for a bushwalk to motivate (or guilt-trip, take your pick) myself into doing enough preparation for the trip I had in mind. It was a blog with a very definite lifespan, being solely about my preparations for a single trip. Once I was ready for the trip and set off into the wilderness, there wasn't a lot to be said about it, so I stopped writing posts.

What I did not do was to stop doing things that I felt like writing about. I kept experimenting with camping food, going on trips and expanding my repertoire of mismatched hobbies. I even wrote about them, but my words took the form of emails and letters rather than blog posts. Almost a year after that stream of posts ended, it seemed time to start posting anew. Many of the themes will be familiar (outdoor adventures, cooking and gear) but I'll be introducing some new ones as well, related to my ventures into the realm of linguistics.

If you watch the posts appearing on here, they won't be arriving in a terribly logical order. I'll be posting ones that I've already written up fully first, and then those which are nothing but scrawled notes afterwards. To maintain my sanity if I look back over them later, I'll set their dates to keep them in the order that the trips actually happened.
